This week is “Grace Week” in TCD – the CU are running all kinds of talks and events. I was helping to make the free lunch today, for Sean (the ICM Canadian)’s talk, on Luke 9:18-22. We had loads of food – and there’s even more cake for the stand in the Arts Block – so if you’re wandering through Trinity this week, look out for Free Cake. If you’re around at lunchtime, even better – there’s lunch (including cake) on the first floor of the GMB – also free.
I spent some time hanging around the stand afterwards, and people really didn’t seem to get the whole “free” thing. They couldn’t understand that there wasn’t some kind of catch, somewhere
Our explanation was that it’s just like God’s grace – it’s there, in abundance, you just have to ask. Which makes sense, really…! And it really was there in abundance – Claire had been worried that it might not last, that everyone would grab it and run – so she prayed there would be enough… Well, there were (literally!) black sacks full of cake, pie, tarts, coffee slices, bread for the lunches, everything.
I also discovered the most yummy Nordie treat – ‘fifteen’…
Fifteen digestive biscuits, smashed up… Fifteen marshmallows, torn up… Add a can of condensed milk, and mix it all up, roll it out in coconut flakes, and then put it in the fridge for an hour or so. Oh. So. Much. TASTY !
Ah, that’s what that’s about. Who designed the TERRIFYING poster with the clip-art woman shocked at the thought of cake?
