Mum went home this afternoon, having arrived here on Saturday evening. I met her at the airport, and was delighted to see her She immediately started looking after me, with a trolley full of shopping, and was apparently amused by two guys who were, quote “seriously checking out [my] ass” She cooked [...] I’ve spent the last hour and a half coming up with as many kinds of linguistic ambiguity as I can It’s fun! Some head-breaking examples: Put the book on the table in the corner in the library The old men, women and children from New York iTunes is now playing all my Ogg Vorbis tunes! I’m a happy bunny… After much searching, and finding lots of unsuitable plugins, I finally found an up-to-date one, that works with Quicktime 7 (iTunes apparently plays music using Quicktime, or something equally odd). I’m using it on Tiger, but it’s said to also work on [...] Good grief, it’s cold here. It’s been snowing pretty much constantly since I woke up. It’s showing no signs of letting up. Big white flakes, so that you can’t see more than a few meters properly. And boy, is it cold. Two weeks ago, I was wondering why on earth the prefab computer labs in the [...] Ok, so I know it’s not the prettiest view on the planet, but here are some pictures from my balcony this morning… (Alpine photos etc *will* go up – just not right now ) Bigger versions are available at my photo page for Munich – until I figure out how to sort stuff [...] I just booked my birthday treat from Colm – a night in an igloo, including cheese fondue & champagne (ok, Sekt, but still ), and an igloo whirlpool! (No, I’m not entirely sure what that is either!) I can’t wait Just back from a weekend in an Alpine hut – it was gorgeous, warm and sunny. The scenery was fantastic, just breathtaking. The alcohol consumption got old real fast, as did the “Loveparade” – people wandering through the bedrooms, bashing pots and pans… Actually, that was mildly amusing the first night, but just stupid the [...] I was lazy today, and took the lift upstairs, to my next class… I’m so glad I did! Just outside the library, on a landing I only ever see if I take the lift, was a cart of books, and a big sign basically saying “Help yourself”… So I did – and came out with [...] Well, the surprises just never end… Went home last Friday – tired, but happy. I started a new Hauptseminar that day, in “Language & Gender”, and it’s lots of fun. Also, it was lovely to be going home Colm & Mum met me at the airport, and we went back to Trees Road.
